PKM Software Landscape
The modern PKM landscape is divided into different philosophies of information organization, often blending outlining and long-form writing.
Modern Networked Tools
- Obsidian: The "IDE" of PKM. Local-first, markdown-based, and highly extensible via plugins. It is the primary host for the llm-wiki-pattern.
- Logseq: A local-first, open-source outliner that supports both Markdown and org-mode. It bridges the gap between the block-level atomicity of roam-research and the data ownership of Obsidian.
- Tiantu / Reflect: Newer entrants focusing on speed, minimalist aesthetics, and integrated AI features.
The Hybrid Approach
Many practitioners use a Logseq -> Obsidian pipeline:
- Logseq (Outliner): For messy thinking, interstitial journaling, and rapid capture.
- Obsidian (Long-form): For refined synthesis, permanent storage, and building the the-compounding-artifact.
